Vergato

This town in the Apennines lies near the Reno River.

Its main square houses the Palazzo dei Capitani della Montagna (the Palace of the Captains of the Mountain), now the seat of the municipal administration, whose façade (embellished with stained glass windows by Luigi Ontani) bears the coats of arms of the families that succeeded one another in the captaincy.

Inside the palace, you can visit the Ontani Museum (museo Ontani), which exhibits various works by the Master, whose beautiful fountain in the railway station square can also be admired. In the surrounding area, it is interesting to visit the ancient village of Tolè, whose alleyways contain more than a hundred works of art, including sculptures, paintings and murals by local artists and others.
