Monteveglio (Valsamoggia)

Part of the Municipality of Valsamoggia, it is located within the Monteveglio Abbey Regional Park, a protected area where you can walk in contact with nature along ancient tracks and pilgrimage routes such as the Piccola Cassia (Little Via Cassia) and admire the spectacular morphology of the gullies.

Popular destinations are the enchanting fortified village of Monteveglio and the ancient Abbey of St Mary of the Assumption (Santa Maria Assunta) built in 1092, which stands on the top of a hill overlooking the valley. The interior features a 10th-century apse and crypt. Attached to the church are two cloisters: one dating back to the 15th century, the other is older and overlooks the plain in a panoramic position.
